Tournament HQ
A Guide to 2016
Tournaments & Events will be
run by
your Tournament Committee (for more info see next section) and governed
by the Rules Committee (bottom of this page). Both groups
will be working to see that this is the best season ever for Saxony.
The schedule is pretty much unchanged from last season, except everything has been pushed back a week due to an extended Tax Season.
There are two types of tiebreaks - one for Stroke Play (like in the Weeklies) and the other for Match Play. In Stoke play ties will be broken by score on the back nine (still tied? final 6; still tied final 3). In Match play the emphasis will shift to the last holes - who won last 3 holes, then last 6 holes, then back 9. In the Finals of Majors, it's extra holes & sudden death. Read the Tournament Committee's announcement here - Tiebreaker
In case you aren't familiar with these events, here's how they work:
- In the Opening Day Scramble you enter as a foursome of your own choosing. Best net score of goup on each hole counts. Also prizes for closest to the pin and driving distance/accuracy.
- Four-Ball is a team event - pick a partner and using your best net score on each hole go up against another twosome in match play. Strategic choice of partner is key. Two Hams just don't work as well as Ham & Eggs.
- President's Cup is one draw for the whole club. Using handicaps you'll have to get through people of all levels in your quest for the cup. Again, match play.
- The Memorial is a stroke-based scoring system where players accumulate points on each hole. Using full handicaps points will be awarded for net scores vs par: 1 for Bogie, 2 for Par, 3 for Birdie etc.. up to 6 points for 4 under. High score takes home the prize.
- Club Championship is open to everyone - with a catch: no handicaps. To give the rest of us something to do while Andy wins it (again), higher handicap players can sign up for A, B, C or D flights. There are no handicaps within a flight; it's match play, straight up.
- The Saxon Cup follows the same format of the FedEx Cup. Players earn points throughout the season, and the top 32 point getters compete in the playoffs.
- Closing Day in past was a scramble - similar to Opening Day, but without that wide-eyed, spring enthusiasm. The weather can be a bit rough, so this event is for the hardy. Usually combined with the final Saxony Club meeting and officers elections for the following year.
